Kelly Khumalo shocks fans with cold take on Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial

Outrage as Kelly Khumalo distances herself from Senzo Meyiwa trial

Kelly Khumalo has finally broken her silence on the ongoing trial of the men accused of killing her late partner, former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

But instead of the empathy many expected, her remarks have left social media divided and outraged.

Meyiwa was gunned down in October 2014 at Khumalo’s Vosloorus home in what was reported as a botched robbery.

The two shared a daughter, Thingo, who is now said to be following in her father’s footsteps.

For years, Kelly has been linked to the case as a person of interest, though she has never been called to testify.

Now, in a resurfaced interview clip shared on Friday, 22 August, by a social media user, the singer gave her unfiltered take when asked if she had hopes for the trial.

“None of my business. I don’t have hopes for rubbish. I have no hopes for rubbish. I’m sorry,” she said.

Her sharp dismissal of the case drew heavy criticism online, especially when contrasted with her sister Zandile Khumalo-Gumede’s emotional testimony in court.

Zandie, who was called as a state witness, broke down as she described how Meyiwa’s death had devastated their lives.

At one point, she even turned to the accused men and asked, “Are you guys even aware of what you did to my life? Are you guys even aware of what you did to us as a family on that day?” before being scolded by the judge.

Kelly Khumalo says the #SenzoMeyiwaTrial is rubbish. 👀

How is it RUBBISH when your sister said the police had the right people?
