Teffo claims Kelly Khumalo shot Senzo Meyiwa by mistake
Former advocate Malesela Teffo has reignited controversy in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case after making explosive claims during a recent appearance on Podcast and Chill.
In the episode that premiered on Thursday, 17 July 2025, Teffo boldly declared that the five men currently on trial for the soccer star’s murder are innocent, and pointed fingers at singer Kelly Khumalo as the person responsible.
Teffo, who previously represented one of the accused in the high-profile case, told hosts Mac G and the team that two of the suspects had solid alibis.
“What I can tell you is that for sure those five guys are innocent, they’ve got their good alibis. When I’m talking about alibi, I mean accused numbers one and two, they were in KZN the day Senzo was shot and killed in that house.”
He insisted that the five men were scapegoats and not the real perpetrators.
“In summary, I’m saying these five guys who are considered to be the killers of Senzo have been scapegoated, meaning that they are replacing the right people.”
According to Teffo, Senzo Meyiwa was accidentally shot by Kelly Khumalo during a heated altercation.
He claimed that the firearm allegedly belonged to Longwe Twala, who had visited the Khumalo household that day to confront Zandile Khumalo, suspecting she was cheating on him with one of Senzo’s friends.
Teffo said the shooting was unintentional, suggesting Senzo was fatally wounded during an attempt by Kelly to hand over the weapon.
“Senzo was allegedly shot and killed by Kelly [Khumalo], where it was alleged that it was a mistake.”
Pressed on where he sourced the information, Teffo stated it came from his own research and what he described as direct accounts.
“From the research and investigation. What I got from the people who were there. Eyewitnesses.”
