It is that time of the year again — the transfer market is open and active as ever. While it’s not even August yet, we already have the latest on Kevin de Bruyne and an array of world football’s biggest stars.
Europe
The name of Manchester City’s midfield ace has been all over the rumour mill in recent days, with multiple reports stating that De Bruyne had agreed personal terms with Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad.
The Belgian is one of the Premier League’s best midfielders and his manager was quick to dismiss any and all suggestions that he may be on his way out of the Etihad.
“No, Kevin is not leaving,” Guardiola said, cutting off the question from a reporter.
Another one of City’s star men is also being closely linked with a move to Saudi; and that is goalkeeper Ederson.
The Brazilian shot-stopper is keen on the move despite his links with Al Nassr falling through, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Citizens rejected the bid from Nassr; and Al Ittihad could be ready to jump in, with contract terms already being discussed with the player.
Staying in Manchester but moving from the blue half to the red, United are set to continue talks with Fiorentina to buy Sofyan Amrabat.
The Moroccan played 21 games for the Red Devils while on loan there last season. His release clause, in the region of £17-million (± R400-million), has not been activated.
However, talks will continue between the clubs with other Spanish sides also reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Across Europe in Paris, Netherlands’ Euro 2024 star Xavi Simons is gathering attention, with Bayern Munich and Leipzig set to do battle to land him on loan.
According to Romano, Leipzig have agreed to sign the player on loan — as PSG would prefer — though it is expected that the move would take up to a week before being completed.
Over in Italy, Inter Milan have managed to hold on to Copa America top scorer Lautaro Martinez.
A phenomenal campaign for the striker ended with another international trophy in Argentina colours; and he has now put speculation to bed by putting pen to paper in a new deal that is valid until 2029.
South Africa
In local news, all eyes are on Kaizer Chiefs as the Soweto Giants look to freshen things up under new boss Nasreddine Nabi.
Amakhosi have already made some moves; and if rumours are to be believed, there could be another centre back and striker on their radar.
Inacio Miguel, 28, from Angolan champions Petro de Luanda is the defender that Chiefs are leaning towards, with the central defensive position a gap that Nabi wants filled, according to Unplayable.
Soccer Laduma have reported that Golden Arrows forward Lungelo Nguse is also a target for Amakhosi.
Also known as Mbesuma, the 25-year-old has been highly rated and has sparked conversation after his six league goals last season. No official bids have been confirmed as yet, though.
