Katlego Maboe’s ex-partner arrested for illegal firearm possession

Monique Muller, the former partner of South African television personality Katlego Maboe and mother of his child, has been arrested in connection with the alleged possession of an illegal firearm.

According to reports, the 29-year-old was taken into custody last Sunday in Ravensmead, Cape Town, alongside five other suspects.

Illegal possession of a firearm

Police sources suggest the arrests may be linked to gang-related activity in the area, although investigations are still underway.

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed Muller’s arrest, noting that she faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm.

Muller appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on October 21, where her case was postponed to October 30 for further proceedings.

She has remained in custody since her arrest.

The incident has drawn public attention given Muller’s past relationship with Maboe, which ended acrimoniously and became a national talking point in 2020.

Their split followed allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse that led to a highly publicised fallout.

Setbacks

Maboe’s career suffered several major setbacks at the time – he was removed from his presenting role on Expresso Morning Show, was no longer nominated for the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA), and advertising campaigns featuring him for OUTsurance were taken off air.

While Maboe has since rebuilt his career and returned to television, Muller has largely kept a low profile – until this latest development.

The case has reignited public debate around the pair’s past, though police have emphasised that Muller’s current legal troubles are unrelated to her past personal disputes.

Further updates are expected following her next court appearance on October 30.
