  • The Johannesburg High Court has reserved judgment in the bail appeal of Katiso “Kt” Molefe, accused in five murder cases, including the killing of DJ Sumbody.
  • Molefe’s legal team argued that he poses no flight risk and that the Magistrates’ Court erred in denying him bail based on a weak and speculative state case.
  • Judge Brad Wanles postponed the matter indefinitely to consider the arguments before making a decision.

The Johannesburg High Court has reserved judgment in the bail appeal of alleged contract killer Katiso “Kt” Molefe, who is facing multiple murder charges, including the high-profile killing of popular DJ Opa Sefoka, widely known as DJ Sumbody.

Molefe appeared before the court on Thursday, arguing that he is neither a danger to society nor a flight risk and should be granted bail while awaiting trial on five murder charges.

High Court Judge Brad Wanles postponed the matter indefinitely to consider the arguments presented by both sides.

Molefe was arrested in July at his Sandton home, accused of orchestrating a hit on Sefoka while out on bail for the murder of engineer Armand Swart.

His legal team argued that the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court erred in denying him bail, relying on what they described as the state’s speculative case that fails to directly link Molefe to the killings.

The defense further claimed that Molefe demonstrated compliance with his previous bail conditions and did not attempt to evade trial, asserting this as evidence he should be granted bail again.
