Kane –  It’s Something I Will Have To Live With

England forward Harry Kane says it is something he will have to live with, after his missed spot kick continued an unwanted history of penalty failures for England at World Cups.

Kane had the opportunity to score and draw level with France, but fluffed his attempt as France went on to win 2-1 in their quarter-final at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Saturday.

England have a torrid history with missed penalties at World Cups, however many of the more famous misses came in penalty shootouts.

Earlier in Saturday’s game, Kane had been successful with a penalty, a goal that saw him draw level as the country’s all-time top scorer with Wayne Rooney.

The miss, which would have seen him become the sole record holder, is something Kane said he will have to live with.

“I’m not someone who thinks too much about it; I prepare the same whether I get one penalty or two penalties in a game,” Kane was quoted as saying by ESPN after the game.

“I can’t fault my preparation or the detail before the game; it didn’t feel any different. I felt confident taking it but didn’t execute it the way I wanted to.”

“Of course, it’s something I will have to live with and take on the chin,” he added. “But all we can do is be proud of each other and know that the team is in a really good place for the future.”
