Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director has responded to transfer talk linking the club with the likes of Khanyisa Mayo and Junior Mendieta.
Amakhosi are still in times of change, with another busy transfer window expected ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
With five games left to play in 2022/23, Chiefs actions on the market might be determined by whether they manage to finish in a CAF Champions League or CAF Confederations Cup spot.
But with the next transfer window around the corner, rumours about potential targets are heating up once, with Motaung Jr. now asked about Mayo and Mendieta, saying there were talks with John Comitis but at the time the Cape Town City owner was not willing to sell.
“No [they] definitely [do fit] the profile,” he told Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000.
“Quality players and again now I’m talking about players who are contracted to other teams. So I don’t want to overstep the respect for the leadership I have for both of those teams.
“But when it comes to someone like Mayo, great talent. But of course ‘willing buyer, willing seller’. During the last conversation that was had Mr. Comitis said outright he’s not willing to sell Mayo right now.”
Motaung Jr. was also hesitant to talk about Mendieta, who he labeled a “top talent”, insisting the players’ future will depend on Stellenbosch’s plans for him.
“And of course, Mendieta is down to what are Stellenbosch’s strategic outlook for him,” he added.
“We know he’s contracted, and I think as time goes on, we’ll see where we are, but he’s a top talent.”
When asked whether both players would be of interest for Chiefs and fit the profile of targets, Motaung Jr. insisted Arthur Zwane and his technical team will give guidance on which players they want and need.
“Would like to have him [Mendieta], would like to have Mayo. All these are great players and our supporters are mentioning those names, they understand the game,” he continued.

“But the coach and the technical staff will give us an indication of their requirements we don’t just sign the players and just show the coach. The coach will have be an integral part, so they will guide us on this one.”
