Kaizer Chiefs transfer rumours: Cele, Duba, Shabalala, Obrigado

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs rumours revolve around Mduduzi Shabalala, Thabo Cele and some words from new man Langelihle Phili.

When will Mdu Shabalala return for Kaizer Chiefs?

21-year-old Langelihle Phili has put pen to paper on his Kaizer Chiefs contract. The winger joins from Stellies after weeks of speculation around his future. Phili bagged seven goals and an assist in 21 league outings last term. Does he waltz straight into the starting XI? Mfundo Vilakazi has a real opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place in the starting XI with Mdu Shabalala out with an injury, although the 22-year-old could return sooner than expected after breaking his arm. Midfielder Thabo Cele could be on his way out. Coach Fernando Da Cruz has indicated he doesn’t fancy the 29-year-old.

What’s next for Kaizer Chiefs?

Against Kruger United on matchday 1 of the new season, some surprise names made starts. Among those were Ethan Chislett in the number 10 position and Luke Baartman wide in attack. Chiefs beat the newcomers 3-1. Vilakazi claimed an assist, so he can expect to keep his place for the MTN8 clash against Golden Arrows. Chiefs welcome Arrows to FNB Stadium on Sunday, 9 August at 18:00.

Will Duba start?

A return of three goals and two assists in 18 league outings last term isn’t brilliant, but he does have a knack for scoring spectacular goals, often in big games. Will that attract interest from elsewhere in South Africa or abroad? If so, would Chiefs entertain big offers for Duba? A brace off the bench on matchday 1 against Kruger United should see Duba start in the MTN8 quarters against Golden Arrows. Another young star, Mfundo Vilakazi, claimed an assist in that match and should also make the starting XI this weekend. Is he becoming more important to the Chiefs cause?

Latest from Europe

19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé is on the brink of a €120m (R2,26 billion) move from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid. This could have a knock-on effect for Arsenal’s rumoured interest in Madrid’s Brazilian star Vini Jr. Can the Gunners get a deal done which would make seismic waves around the world of football?
