Kaizer Chiefs told to release 33-year-old midfielder

Former Kaizer Chefs star Rudolph ‘Gardner’ Seale feels Amakhosi are better off without winger Pule Mmodi.

The speedy winger’s contract expires at the end of the season and Seale doesn’t think the winger deserves a new contract.

The 33-year-old has struggled this season, only contributing one goal in 25 matches across all competitions for Kaizer Chiefs.

“He hasn’t proven [that] he deserves a new contract,” Seale tells KickOff.

“He is struggling to pass the adapting phase, I think it’s time he makes way for others, based on his age I don’t think his game will improve.

“But he is not a bad player to be honest, it’s just that his game and performance have reached the ceiling.”

Seale urged Kaizer Chiefs to focus on former Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi.

“Because there’s no area I can say he excels in because he is not bringing crosses, he is not shooting, and he is not creating,” said Seale.

“I think it’s time he makes way for Velebayi. We need the likes of Velebayi to take the team forward next season. He is a promising youngster and he is ready.”

Velebayi has impressed in the 10 matches he’s played so far even though he is yet to score or provide an assist for the Soweto giants.

With nine matches to go, Mmodi still have time to impress the Kaizer Chiefs but at 33, it seems unlikely that he will earn another new contract.

Do you think Amakhosi should keep Pule Mmodi?
