Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart is set to leave the club after three years at Naturena.
The 29-year-old midfielder has recently extended his contract with Amakhosi, but it seems he did not travel with the team that left for Amsterdam on Thursday night.
Maart scored the winning goal against Orlando Pirates in the final of the Nedbank Cup, which ended the club’s trophy drought.
On Saturday, FARPost reported that an Austrian club was close to securing the signature of the Kaizer Chiefs captain. It is believed that the ex-Sekhukhune man is still in South Africa, waiting for his work visa. “It appears that the two clubs have reached an agreement, but the 29-year-old player is still awaiting the issuance of his visa,” the publication reported.
Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart leaves
Amakhosi are currently in the Netherlands for their pre-season. So far, the Soweto giants have made seven signings since the transfer window opened last week. Maart’s departure comes a day after midfielder Edson Castillo also parted ways with the club.
Kaizer Chiefs are yet to release an official statement on the departures of Castillo and their captain. With six confirmed departures, Amakhosi also announced the arrival of Ethan Chislett, striker Flavio Silva and three fullbacks—Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Nkanyiso Shinga.
Do you think it was a good decision to let go of Maart?
