Kaizer Chiefs’ most important players this season so far

Kaizer Chiefs have reached the midway point of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season with their campaign still finely balanced.

15 league matches are complete, and with domestic and continental cup fixtures added, Amakhosi have already played 25 games in all competitions.

Despite fluctuating results under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, a clearer picture has revealed which players have been Amakhosi’s most important.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ MOST IMPORTANT PLAYERS

Only two players have featured in all 25 matches this season. Mduduzi Shabalala and Zitha Kwinikha have been ever-present across the Betway Premiership, CAF Confederation Cup, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup, all during a demanding schedule.

Goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen follows closely with 23 appearances. Kaizer Chiefs’ strong start to the league season has been built on a more solid defensive structure. Petersen played a central role in that improvement, recording 10 clean sheets before the mid-season break.

Defender Inacio Miguel completes the group with 22 appearances. His presence has been important as Kaizer Chiefs maintained organisation at the back.

TEAM OUTPUT

In the Betway Premiership, Amakhosi have 30 points from 15 matches, with five points behind leaders Orlando Pirates.

Kaizer Chiefs have eight wins and only one defeat. That consistency has kept them in the title conversation despite disappointment in cup competitions.

The Glamour Boys were eliminated from the Carling Knockout Cup by Stellenbosch FC on penalties in October 2025.

It was again Stellies who sent Kaizer Chiefs out of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-1 defeat at the DHL Stadium last week.

Attention has since shifted to the CAF Confederation Cup, where two back-to-back 1-0 victories over ZESCO United have kept qualification hopes alive. The results lifted them to second place in Group D with seven points.

Zamalek later beat Al Masry 2-1, leaving Kaizer Chiefs level on points with the Masry while Zamalek tops the group on eight.

The CAF run continues on Sunday as the Soweto giants host Al Masry at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, while the final group game will be a trip to Cairo to face Zamalek next Sunday.
