South Africa’s most decorated football club, Kaizer Chiefs, is today celebrating its 56th anniversary.

Founded on 7 January 1970 by the legendary Kaizer Motaung following his return from the Atlanta Chiefs in the United States, the Soweto giants have evolved from a fledgling side into a cornerstone of African sport.

Their trophy cabinet boasts a record 93 titles, including 13 league championships, cementing their status as the nation’s premier footballing institution.

56 YEARS OF AMAKHOSI!

From 1970 to 2026 – the legacy continues.
Thank you to every player, every supporter, every member of the Amakhosi family who made this journey unforgettable.

The club’s rich history is defined by its iconic black and gold colours and the legendary figures who graced the pitch.

Icons such as Doctor Khumalo helped transform the FNB Stadium into a “fortress,” while the fierce Soweto Derby rivalry against Orlando Pirates remains one of the most anticipated fixtures in the global football calendar.

To mark the milestone, the club’s vast and loyal fan base took to social media to share tributes and memories.

56 years of Amakhosi. 56 years of glory.
