Kaizer Chiefs key defender out for the season

Kaizer Chiefs are likely to be without key defender Zitha Kwinika for the rest of the season.

The defender has been out of action for several matches and had to miss key fixtures as Amakhosi look to secure CAF Confederation Cup spot.

According to Soccer Laduma, the experienced centre-back is likely to return to action around July during pre-season.

“Yes, it’s true he has been out of action because of injury. It has really affected his season because he was doing very well for himself and for the team, but unfortunately, he got injured just before the Soweto derby, and that injury is expected to keep him out for the rest of the season,” an insider told the publication.

“It’s a bad injury, but it’s believed that he could be ready before the preseason camp and training. But for now, it’s believed that he could be out for the remaining four games of the season. He said he could start running after two weeks, but was not sure about training with the rest of the team.”

Kaizer Chiefs have two players out for the season

Another Kaizer Chiefs player set to miss out for the rest of the season is midfielder George Matlou. Having just fought back for his place in the starting lineup, Matlou sustained a serious injury a few months back which ended his season.

Amakhosi have four matches remaining this season including their anticipated clash with Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday evening.

Should Chiefs release Kwinika and Matlou?
