Kaizer Chiefs in no hurry to extend contracts of seven players

Kaizer Chiefs are not in a hurry to extend the contracts of seven players.

Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, Gaston Sirino, Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, and Pule Mmodi are all entering the final months of their current contracts, and the club has not made any announcements regarding their renewals.

Petersen, Solomons, Mthethwa, Ngcobo, and Mmodi have all had more playing time this season and are likely to be offered new contracts. However, the decision will largely depend on how Kaizer Chiefs perform for the rest of the season.

A cup victory and a top-four finish could influence the club’s decision to extend the players’ contracts.

An insider informed Soccer Laduma that Amakhosi are not rushing to provide new contracts to these players.

“No one is signing those guys. That’s why even now, we are in no hurry. We are not scared to lose anyone. It’s small teams that have to do that. No one can even afford those salaries. There’s no worry. That stuff can be sorted out. The club also has to decide at the end of the season if we need all of them,” the informer revealed to the publication.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to assess players towards the end of the season before coming to a conclusion. Last season, Amakhosi offloaded close to 10 players.

“It is believed that some players will be assessed toward the end of the campaign before final decisions are made, including experienced campaigners within the squad.

“Gaston (Sirino), you have to assess if you’re going to need Sirino come end of the season. But Sirino for me here is important, yeah? Very important. You saw even in Egypt, he’s the one that almost scored.”

Kaizer Chiefs currently fourth in the PSL

Under the new co-coaches, Amakhosi have improved since Nasreddine Nabi took over. The club is currently participating in the CAF Confederation Cup and if they can go further in the competition, there’s a good chance that more player’s contracts will get renewed.
