Kaizer Chiefs get mixed news on Ngcobo, Mthethwa, McCarthy

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap looks at some dismal Nkosingiphile Ngcobo stats and horrific news on the injury front.

Ngcobo’s Kaizer Chiefs stats don’t paint a pretty picture

Fan-favourite and academy talent Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is under fire for his failure to string together consistent performances. Injuries have ravaged the 26-year-old’s career to date, and now, rumours suggest the club could move him on at the end of the 2025-26 campaign after running out of patience. One fan said he is ‘made of glass’, in an attempt to highlight his frustrating injury-proneness. He hasn’t managed more than 16 appearances in any of the last five Betway Premiership campaigns and has only chalked up 34 in his last three. He’s also scored two league goals in his last four seasons combined. This seems to contradict his nickname ‘Mshini’ in ironic fashion.

Kaizer Chiefs hit hard by injuries before Durban City battle

Given Msimango, Mfundo Vilakazi, Inácio Miguel, Etiosa Ighodaro and Brandon Petersen are all out of Sunday’s match with Durban City at FNB Stadium. Now, according to reports, Nkanyiso Shinga and George Matlou will play no further part this season. To add insult to injury, Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are suspended for the upcoming clash with Pitso Dladla’s side. The club has a challenging fixture schedule between now and the end of the campaign.
