Kaizer Chiefs fans pick the best player

Kaizer Chiefs edged the Angolan side 1-0 and eventually triumphed 5-4 on penalties, keeping their African dream alive.

As always, Amakhosi fans were invited to vote for the best player of the match, giving supporters a chance to make their voices heard.

The poll comes after every fixture, letting the fans decide who truly made the difference on the pitch.

DILLAN SOLOMONS NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH

This time, the spotlight fell on a player who had not kicked a ball so far this season, but made an immediate impression when given the chance.

The 29-year-old right back Solomons emerged on top, earning 50.3% of the votes. Glody Lilepo came second with 35.1%, while goalkeeper Brandon Petersen claimed 14.6%.

Lilepo scored the only goal of the match after Kabuscorp’s keeper spilled a stinging shot from Solomons in the 41st minute. Petersen also caught the eye, making a superb flying save in the first half before keeping his cool to stop a penalty in the shootout.

Remarkably, Solomons’ last taste of action was last season. New signing Thabiso Monyane was the first choice before his injury, followed by Reeve Frosler, and Zitha Kwinika in the right-back role.

DILLAN SOLOMONS AT KAIZER CHIEFS

Kaizer Chiefs signed the speedy attacker when he was once rated as one of the league’s top attacking right-backs during his time at Moroka Swallows. However, he has struggled for consistency at Naturena.

Now in the early stages of his fourth season in gold and black, he has made 57 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs, contributing one goal and four assists.

The former Stellenbosch FC winger from Steenberg, Cape Town, has also played for Milano United, Royal Eagles, and Cape Town All Stars.

In the meantime, it’s a packed week for Amakhosi, who have both league and cup duties to navigate. First up, they welcome AmaZulu to FNB Stadium on Wednesday at 19:30, then it’s off to the Western Cape for a Carling Knockout clash with Stellenbosch FC at the DHL Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
