Kaizer Chiefs dragged into a muddy Top 8 fight once again

Posted on March 6, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs are finding themselves having to fight for a top 8 finish for the third successive season.

In the past two campaigns, Amakhosi have finished outside the top 8 and this was seen as their redemption arc. Three wins from their opening three matches saw them emerge as title contenders, and even as early as February, they were still in the mix.

Three consecutive league defeats see them 14 points adrift of rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. They lie 6th in the Betway Premiership and if they continue to drop points, they might find themselves out of the top 8.

It appears 2024 and 2025 nightmares have returned to haunt the Glamour Boys in what was a promising season. With over 10 new signings, Amakhosi faithful were hoping to win at least one trophy this campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs battle for Top 8

Having been knocked out of both the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup last month, Chiefs attention is soley in the Betway Premiership. A top 3 finish will guarantee them a place in Africa next season but anything less could be seen as failure.

They host Durban City at the FNB Stadium next weekend before welcoming struggling Magesi FC to Johannesburg.

Six points in these two matches will see the Soweto giants return to third on the log, but defeats or draws might see Kaizer Chiefs get into a muddy top 8 battle.

Can Amakhosi turn things around and secure wins over Magesi and Durban City?
