Premier Soccer League prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs were docked three points in the DStv Diski Challenge for fielding a suspended player.

Amakhosi were found guilty of fielding suspended midfielder Puso Dithejane in a 3-2 win at Harry Gala Stadium on 18 March.

As a consequence, Chiefs’ DDC were docked the three points on the log, as confirmed by Majavu on Friday.

“I can confirm that earlier today, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club as well as the player Mr Dithejane appeared before the PSL to answer to charges of fielding a suspended player in the form of Mr Dithejane, for fielding him in a match when he was ineligible to do so,” he stated.

“Both of them pleaded guilted as charged and they were subsequently convicted by the DC. With regards to sanction, having listened to both parties, namely the prosecutors and the representative of the responded, the DC ruled as follows:

“1) Kaizer Chiefs was directed to forfeit the match in favour of Maritzburg United, that was a DDC match.

“2) Kaizer Chiefs was fined the amount of R10,000 which was whole suspended the period of 24 hours on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence again.

“3) They were also directed to carry the costs of the DC hearing and the player was further suspended for an additional match, meaning he was given a one-match suspension over and above the suspension that he had accumulated.”

The points deduction will see the young Glamour Boys drop from 49 points to 46, meaning they will move from fourth position to fifth on the log behind Golden Arrows with 47 points.

The case won’t impact the overall standings much, though, as SuperSport United were already confirmed as winners of the competition.
