Kaizer Chiefs crash out of the CAF Confederation Cup

Kaizer Chiefs are officially out of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 3-2 penality shout-out loss to Red Arrows.

Amakhosi won the match 1-0, thanks to Bradley Cross‘ second goal, but the aggregate score was 1-1.

The match then had to go to penalties, and Chiefs failed to convert three of their five penalties, and thus, bowed out.

Fernando da Cruz made changes to the team that lost to Red Arrows last week with Bruce Bvuma starting and Lebohang Maboe returning.

However, there was no target-man as Wandile Duba, Pule Mmodi and Mduduzi Shabalala led the attack.

Chiefs preferred to play out wide with crosses into the penalty area finding no one to turn them into goals.

After an exciting first half which ended in a 0-0 draw, the Soweto giants eventually upped the tempo in the second half.

And in the 66th minute, Cross gave Chiefs the lead with a header after a number of their players missed the cross.

Mduduzi Shabalala then had two golden opportunities to win the tie for Chiefs but fluffed both chances.

Ultimately, Chiefs won the match but the match needed penalties to determine the winner who would advance to the group stage.

STARTING XI: KAIZER CHIEFS VS RED ARROWS

Kaizer Chiefs starting XI: Bvuma, Frosler, Cross, Miguel, Moloisane, Mthethwa, Mabaso, Mmodi, Duba, Shabalala, Abrahams.
