Kaizer Chiefs beat Royal AM to end three-match losing streak |

Kaizer Chiefs bounced back to winning ways on Sunday in the DStv Premiership after beating Royal AM 2-0 for the first time.

Sifiso Hlanti and Ashley Du Preez were both on target scoring on the hour mark and 85th minute respectively.

FROSLER INJURY

Five minutes into the game the Soweto giants were forced to make a change. Reeve Frosler who collided with teammate Siyabonga Ngezana at the beginning of the match was replaced by Dillon Solomons.

CHIEFS’ ATTACKING PLAY

Kaizer Chiefs were dominant throughout the entire match, however, they lacked clinical finishing especially in the first half.

Academy graduate Mduduzi Shabalala tried to chip Royal AM goalkeeper Hugo Nyame from long range, however the ball went over the bar.

Chiefs kept pushing, Ashley Du Preez and Siyethemba Sithemba came close to breaking the deadlock for Amakhosi in a short space of time. However, Nyame was alert, saving both shots.

Hlanti unleashed a shot, but it went over the bar, then Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana tried a cheeky finish, but Nyame saved from close range.

Play was stopped in the 23rd minute for 15 minutes due to bad light at the stadium. After the restart, both teams failed create clear-cut chances as they went to the break deadlocked at nil all.

Nyame was Royal AM’s better player in the first half as he pulled several saves. The KZN side went to the break with zero shots on target.

At the beginning of the second half, skipper Keagan Dolly’s poor shot was easily dealt with by Nyame.

New signing Christian Saile was handed his debut as he came in for Bimenyimana in the 55th minute.

Hlanti finally made it one nil in the 60th minute with a cheeky header from a set piece. The visitors tried to salvage a draw.

However, Chiefs were well organised and solid at the back. Du Preez put the game to bed when he doubled the lead with five minutes left to play.

The victory saw the Glamour Boys climb to fifth on the log, one point behind rivals Orlando Pirates. They have accumulated 27 points from 18 matches.
