Kaizer Chiefs and Gaston Sirino could part ways

Kaizer Chiefs look increasingly likely to part ways with Gastón Sirino after a disappointing two-year spell at Naturena.

The 35-year-old joined Amakhosi as a free agent in 2024, arriving with high expectations following a successful stint at Mamelodi Sundowns.

While he showed early promise, Sirino has struggled to maintain consistency, with injuries further disrupting his rhythm.

This season, the Uruguayan attacker has managed just one goal and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions, numbers that fall short of expectations for a player of his calibre.

Sirino struggling at Kaizer Chiefs

In his absence, Amakhosi have leaned on Flávio Silva and Glody Lilepo for goals, while Pule Mmodi has provided much of the creativity from wide areas.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Thembinkosi Biyela has questioned the club’s handling of Sirino, particularly his limited game time despite reportedly being among the highest earners.

“Paying Gastón Sirino a significant salary while starting him on the bench raises questions. He deserves to start every match. We should not be discussing Champions League qualification when teams like Sekhukhune United are also competing. Chiefs are now targeting a top-eight finish,” Biyela told Kick Off.

Will Kaizer Chiefs renew Sirino’s contract?

With just two months remaining on his contract, Sirino’s future at Naturena appears all but sealed.

His impact off the bench has been minimal, a stark contrast to his peak years at Sundowns, where he won six league titles and established himself as one of the league’s most influential attackers.

What’s next for Sirino next season?
