Warriors striker Tino Kadewere has two games to salvage his future with French Ligue 1 side Lyon after enduring a season to forget. The Zimbabwe international has played a bit-part role in his second season with Lyon after an impressive maiden term in the French topflight, where he made 33 appearances and scored 10 goals.

His second term at Les Gones has been characterised by injuries and lack of form, keeping him on the bench for 13 of their 15 games this season. The Harare-born forward has only started thrice while Lyon played their 36th game of the season over the weekend as he watched the action from the bench.

Following the indifferent season, reports are that the lanky forward could be headed for the exit door with interest swelling from other suitors. But Kadewere, whose last goal was on February 19 in Lyon’s 1-1 draw against Lens, will know his only shot at saving his Lyon career is Saturday’s fixture against Nantes and Clermont Foot a week later.

French publication Mercato recently reported that Kadewere was eager to move to get game time. Several teams, including Marshal Munetsi’s Reims, Lorient and Troyes in France, German side Stuttgart and England’s Burnley, were reportedly keen on signing him on a loan deal in January.

“The Zimbabwean international striker plans to pack his bags after receiving requests from Reims, Troyes, Lorient and Stuttgart in Germany during the last winter transfer window. Under contract with OL until June 2024, Kadewere should thus obtain an exit voucher from his management, who is claiming €8 million [Lyon paid €15 million]. A sum equivalent to its current value as specified by Transfermarkt,” the publication reported.

Kadewere, who has only scored once this season, joined Olympique Lyonnais in July 2020 after a spell at Le Havre, where he made 47 league appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing eight assists. He was signed by the former club’s manager Rudi Garcia, whose Dutch successor Peter Bosz has not given the 26-year-old has only started him twice.
