During a church service on Sunday, 15 March, Kwaito legend and now pastor Kabelo Mabalane took a moment from preaching the word to congratulate his wife, Gail Mabalane, for winning her first SAFTA award the previous day.

KABELO MABALANE: ‘I’M A HUSBAND TO A SAFTA WINNER’

In a TikTok video posted by Nozipho Mashaba, it was clear that it wasn’t a typical Sunday at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, where Kabelo serves as a pastor, because someone very dear to him achieved an extraordinary milestone.

The fellow members of the congregation cheerfully applauded as Kabelo spoke proudly of his wife’s achievement. He said the following words:

“I’m a husband to a SAFTA winner; you must put respect on my name. Don’t just come at me [because] now I’m a husband to a SAFTA winner,” began Kabelo.

“Congratulations to Gail, she deserves it. We were in the room yesterday, and when the nominees came out, everybody was like just do us a favour [and] give it to the person we all know deserves it,” he concluded.

GAIL MABALANE WINS HER FIRST SAFTA

When the announcements for the SAFTA nominations were made in February 2026, Gail’s legion of fans vouched for her, as she truly deserves her flowers for her brilliant portrayal of Zenzi Mwale in Netflix’s Unseen.

The mother of two was elegance personified in a “silk & chiffon deep cherry red” designer dress from TN Collectiv. She opted for a German cut hairstyle that accentuated her facial features and enhanced her overall look for this unforgettable evening.

In a short interview with The Post, Officially! Gail, who’s also an entrepreneur, described her experience of winning her first SAFTA award.

“Wow, guys, my first SAFTA nomination, my first SAFTA win after 15 years in the industry. I always say we don’t do it for the accolades. We don’t do it for the recognition, right? But when that recognition comes, there’s something that seeps in your spirit…”
