Media personality K Naomi shared a now-expired Instagram Story featuring her two daughters with a caption that didn’t sit well with many social media users. The internet has since accused the star of being a colourist after mentioning her daughters’ complexions.

K Naomi’s controversial Instagram Story
The multi-hyphenate creative’s social media post, which has since gone viral, read as follows:
“Missed my girls so much. Guys, Ama’s always playing outside, but she looks darker because Netisha is SO light. She looks exactly like my mother-in-law. Ama reminds me of my mother here, her smile and nose.”
The internet was outraged, accusing her of making colourist remarks toward her daughter, pointing out how unnecessary it was to point out both of her daughters’ complexions as well as make excuses as to why their complexions are the way that they are.

K Naomi responds to the controversy
After her post went viral, K Naomi shared another Instagram Story responding to the scrutiny she had been receiving.
“Apparently I am being called a colourist for posting a picture of my daughters and sharing how much they remind me of two significant women in my life. Two little girls with their own unique features, each bearing such a beautiful resemblance, who mean so much to me,” she wrote.
“How a sentimental moment about family resemblance turned into a conversation about colourism is honestly beyond me,” she continued.
This ignited further outrage. It seems K Naomi missed the point of the initial outrage.
One X user explained, “The question is why you felt the need to explain one child’s darker complexion by saying she’s always playing outside, while emphasising how light the other one is.”
Nobody criticised her for saying your daughters resemble their grandmothers. 😭 The question is why you felt the need to explain one child’s darker complexion by saying she’s always playing outside, while emphasising how light the other one is. https://t.co/HAYi5M8I3G
