  • Parolee Ayanda Dayi was sentenced to four life terms at the Wynberg Regional Court for killing four men in separate incidents, including the execution of three Sasko bread delivery workers in Delft, Cape Town.
  • Video footage showed Dayi and his co-accused robbing the victims before shooting them despite their surrender, with another deadly incident linked to a hijacking in Dunoon.
  • Dayi, previously convicted of rape, received additional sentences for robbery, attempted murder, and illegal firearm possession, and was declared unfit to own a firearm.

Convicted murderer and parolee Ayanda Dayi was handed four life sentences at the Wynberg Regional Court in Cape Town on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, for killing four men in separate incidents.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that Dayi was one of the accused who brutally shot and killed two of the three Sasko employees who were delivering bread at a spaza shop in Delft in May 2024.

In a video clip that went viral on social media, Dayi and his co-accused were seen robbing the three men before proceeding to shoot them, despite the victims clearly surrendering.

In a separate incident, Dayi also shot and killed two men and hijacked their vehicle in Dunoon.

At the time of the murders, Dayi was out on parole, having previously been convicted of rape and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in August 2002.

Here is a breakdown of his sentence:

  • Four life sentences
  • 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances
  • Three separate 15-year sentences for the illegal possession of firearms
  • Four years’ imprisonment for the illegal possession of ammunition
  • 10 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder

Dayi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
