  • Justice Minister Mamoloko Kubayi says South Africa is reviewing Malawi’s court ruling on Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s extradition case.
  • The Malawian High Court set aside an order that would have sent Bushiri and his wife back to South Africa to face fraud and rape charges.
  • Kubayi says the government remains committed to ensuring justice is served through proper legal channels.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mamoloko Kubayi says her department is studying the ruling by the High Court of Malawi concerning self-proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

The Malawian High Court has set aside a previous order by the Lilongwe Magistrates’ Court that directed the couple’s extradition to South Africa to face trial on multiple charges, including fraud, rape, and money laundering.

Reacting to the decision, Kubayi said the department would determine the next legal steps once a full assessment of the ruling has been completed.

She reaffirmed that South Africa remains committed to pursuing all available legal avenues to ensure justice is served.

The Bushiris previously appeared before two separate courts in South Africa on multiple criminal charges. They were released on bail but later violated their bail conditions and fled the country, only to be traced to Malawi, where they have since remained.
