Junior Khanye blames Bruce Bvuma for the Kaizer Chiefs latest crushing defeat.
The Glamour Boys nightmare season hit a new low on Saturday afternoon when they suffered their 11th league defeat, falling 2-1 to Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium. Former Chiefs winger Khanye did not hold back, pointing a firm finger at goalkeeper Bvuma for the club’s latest collapse.
Amakhosi started strong, grabbing an early lead thanks to Glody Lilepo’s 10th-minute strike. However, the momentum quickly slipped away as Matome Mathiane and Daniel Msendami found the back of the net for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, completing a stunning comeback that left Chiefs stunned on their own turf.
The defeat not only knocked Chiefs out of the top eight but also placed them in danger of repeating last season’s embarrassment when they missed out on the MTN8 competition.
Khanye slams Bvuma’s costly error
Speaking bluntly on iDiski TV, Khanye criticized Bvuma’s poor handling that led to Gallants’ decisive second goal.
“Poor from the goalkeeper, poor from Bruce Bvuma,” Khanye said, as quoted by iDiski Times.
“Just pile the ball to be far away. Now he’s punching the ball and it falls close to the opposition.”
Khanye highlighted the mistake as a turning point, arguing that a simple clearance could have saved the game.
“Seasoned player. I mean we’re not being harsh to players but we need to be realistic,” he insisted.
“The team lost. That ball was a one-v-one. I think Chiefs could have drawn.”
Goalkeeping woes threaten Chiefs’ reputation
Khanye didn’t stop there. He emphasized that Kaizer Chiefs’ problems start between the posts, a critical area he believes the club has neglected for too long.
“If you don’t have a goalkeeper, it’s a problem especially at a big team like Kaizer Chiefs,” Khanye stressed. He praised the stability other top clubs enjoy in goal, pointing to rivals like Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Pirates got one of the best goalkeepers [Sipho Chaine] especially in the country, Ronwen Williams as well Mamelodi Sundowns, it’s just Chiefs,” Khanye added. “As a big team, I think that’s where they are losing it to start off.”
Can Chiefs recover before it’s too late?
With time running out and their spot in the MTN8 hanging in the balance, Kaizer Chiefs must find answers fast, or face another season of disappointment. As criticism mounts and pressure builds, the club’s goalkeeping crisis now stands firmly at the centre of the storm.
