A judge is set to deliver a critical ruling tomorrow morning that will determine the fate of the highly anticipated Netflix documentary, Beauty and the Bester.
The judgement, which has been reserved, is scheduled for 08:30 SAST, a mere half-hour before the film’s global release.
The legal challenge was brought forward by Dr. Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester, who are currently at the centre of one of South Africa’s most sensational criminal cases.
The pair have taken the streaming giant to court, arguing that the documentary infringes upon their rights.
Sources suggest that the documentary delves into the elaborate escape of convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester from a maximum-security prison and the subsequent manhunt that captivated the nation.
The film is also expected to explore his relationship with Dr. Magudumana, a celebrity doctor who is alleged to have assisted him.
The court’s decision will either greenlight the release of the documentary as planned or impose an interdict, halting its airing entirely.
