John Maduka reveals Royal AM’s league immediate objective

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has revealed the club’s league immediate aim as they’re gearing up for the DStv Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United.

Maduka was speaking after his side played a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in their last league outing at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Malawian tactician says Thwihli Thwahla are aiming to reach the 30-point mark before they target a position to finish the season in.

Currently, AM have collected 26 points from 21 games and are 10th on the log standings. A victory over Babina Noko would take them to 29 points, closer to their target.

“A very difficult one, every game is like a cup final, I think they lost today [on Saturday], so coming to us, it’s like a derby,” he said.

“It’s like another derby because the two teams have got their history, so that alone it’s like the cup final coming next week.

“But it’s a game that we’re playing at home, it’s very important for us to start collecting maximum points, especially when playing at home.

“If you see the league itself, it’s very, very tricky. So, it’s very important for us to pass that mark of 30 points, then we can start targeting whoever is on top there.

“But we need points, it’s our home game. It’s a game that we’ll go back and prepare and try to find the mistakes we made today so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes against Sekhukhune.

“We know that it’s going to be a very difficult game, but it’s a home game for no excuse. We must go all out and try make our supporters happy and try win the game.

Since Maduka reunited with Royal AM, he has led the KZN side to two wins and two draws in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune are coming to Durban having lost their last league match 2-1 to Cape Town City.
