An employee of Assupol in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal is facing the prospect of losing his job because the college where he studied is not issuing his certificate.
Martin Nkululeko Dweku, 39, was sent from pillar to post by the Umfolozi TVET College whenever he asked for certification.
In the 2007-08 period, Dweku was part of a group of employees who were enrolled with the college to study for a national certificate in financial services wealth management.
The programme was financed by the Inseta (Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority) whose primary purpose is to grow the pool and quality of critical and scarce skills among the previously disadvantaged.
Upon completing his studies, he returned to work and his employer wanted the certificate in his file.
“I went back to the TVET College and asked for it. They gave me a strange answer that they can’t find my name in their database. I had to produce several documents and they said the only solution is to start afresh and study for the same course again,” Dweku told Scrolla.Africa.
He says 16 years later, he still doesn’t have the certificate and the TVET has gone mum.
Inseta has written several letters to the TVET college to resolve the matter, but nothing has been done.
“I am losing out a lot as a result of the conduct of this TVET college. I don’t know what to do now,” a frustrated Dweku added.
In April this year Scrolla.Africa contacted the TVET about the matter and it said it would investigate the matter.
When asked today how far they have gone with the investigation, they didn’t respond.
