As Women’s Month officially ended, actor Jerome du Plooy took the opportunity to honour a woman who played an important part in contributing to the man he has become – his mother.

Since entering the spotlight, the Generations: The Legacy actor has dabbled in multiple projects, including presenting, Master of Ceremonies, and motivational speaking, expanding his professional CV by a mile. Recently, he also co-hosted the 18th annual South African Sports Awards alongside Expresso Show presenter Zanele Potelwa.

In a recent interview with the entertainment publication, Daily Sun, the talented actor attributed his strong willpower and hustling spirit to his late mother.

Jerome explained that during her youth, his mother started working as a maid in one of Gauteng’s most affluent areas, Sandton. Despite her humble beginnings, she quickly found the courage to excel in her craft and became a security officer.

This played an integral part in shaping his idea of what it meant to be a go-getter.

“Everything I do, I do in her honour,” he explained.

“That’s something she instilled in me, being humble. She always told me to keep my feet on the ground and not think I am better than others, no matter what I have and what I am going to get. She taught me to treat people with the same respect, even without money,” he continued.

Just like his mother, Jerome has a deep love for others and often spends his time going to communities and inspiring others through motivational talks.

He claims that loving others was one of the key attributes that he takes away from her inspiring life.
