Matome Mabeba has found a new home at JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after recently parting ways with Richards Bay.

The newly promoted DStv Premiership club Richards Bay had signed him on a two-year deal.

However, after three months with them, the club decided to release him. He had barely featured for them in the 2022/23 season.

WHAT MABEBA’s AGENT SAID

His agent Pontsho Madumo last week confirmed his departure to FARPost, saying they were already looking for a new club for the player.

“Yes, I can confirm he is leaving Richards Bay after both parties agreed to terminate. He’s a professional and understands that these things happen in football. We’re working on his next move,” Madumo said.

He has since confirmed that his client will play his football at the Motsepe Foundation Championship side this season.

“We’re happy he has joined JDR. It’s an exciting challenge for him, and he believes the team is strong enough to challenge for the league,” Madumo said.

Although he could not be drawn into revealing contract details, FARPost sources said he had been handed a year-long contract with an option of one.

The last time the talented fullback played was with TS Sporting. He left the club at the expiry of his contract and found himself at the Natal Rich Boyz.

However, things did not work out with the technical team seemingly not eager to include him in their plans.

Mabeba, who turned 32 earlier this month, will add experience to the JDR backline. He played an integral part as Baroka won the Telkom Knockout Cup in 2019.

After that, he went on to spend two seasons with TS Sporting.

JDR have had an indifferent start to the season, winning two of their five fixtures. They lost their second game on Friday against Pretoria University. It ended 2-0.

They drew once, which leaves them sitting in sixth place, four points adrift of Pretoria University.
