Jay-Z Accuser Withdraws R*pe Allegation, Says She Never Met Rapper
A woman who accused Jay-Z of r*ping her when she was 13 has formally withdrawn the allegation, telling a US federal court that she never met or spoke to the rapper and that there was no truth to her claims against him.
The woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, made the admission in a 12-page sworn declaration filed on Thursday, 24 September, in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The declaration was filed as part of a lawsuit brought by Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, against her former legal representatives over the now-dismissed sexual-assault case.
In the declaration, Doe said Carter “never r*ped” her, that she had “never met or spoken” to him and that he had never engaged in inappropriate conduct towards her. She also acknowledged that her accusations had caused Carter harm.
Doe had originally accused Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs of r*ping her at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York. The lawsuit was filed in late 2024 by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee. Both men denied the allegations.
Doe voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice in February 2025. Carter subsequently launched legal action against Buzbee, his law firm and Doe, alleging malicious prosecution and defamation.
In her latest declaration, Doe said she had been prompted to contact lawyers after seeing a Facebook advertisement seeking people who believed they had been sexually assaulted by Combs. She said the advertisement triggered memories of an assault when she was 13. She also alleged that her lawyers did not adequately investigate her claims before filing the lawsuit.
Her new lawyer, James Blair Newman Jr., said Doe continues to maintain that she was sexually assaulted but was mistaken in identifying Carter as the person responsible.
Doe said she received no payment or other financial compensation from Carter or anyone acting on his behalf for making the declaration. Carter has now dropped her as a defendant in his lawsuit, while his case against Buzbee and his law firm continues.
