Two hijacking suspects, Mustafa Ali and Omari Mustafa, escaped from custody at the Meyerton police station by allegedly transforming into cats, according to a leaked police statement sent to a SAPS general.

“When it was the turn to charge Mustafa Ali and Omari Mustafa, their names were called, but they couldn’t be found inside the cells,” reads the statement seen by Scrolla.Africa.

One of the suspects in the cells told the police commanders that the duo had turned into cats and vanished.

The incident happened just after midnight on Tuesday, 16 July.

The police had arrested 11 suspects for hijacking and possession of stolen property, recovering a hijacked truck and its load.

The suspects were taken to the Meyerton police holding cells.

The police said a suspect in the cells, Erick Tumbulu, told them he saw the two men make strange owl noises, turn into cats, and escape while the gate was still locked.

“This suspect was prepared to even state [this] under oath to the police,” said the statement.

One of the commanding officers on duty confirmed this account, saying that Tumbulu explained how the suspects turned into cats and escaped.

Authorities have opened a docket for escape from lawful custody and launched a search for the duo.

The matter has been reported to SAPS senior management and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate for further investigation.
