Jacob Zuma Given Deadline To Prove He Deserved Medical Parole
The Department of Correctional Services and former President Jacob Zuma’s legal team have until June 1 to file papers with the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).
The papers must challenge the High Court’s ruling that Zuma’s release on medical parole was unlawful and irrational. The Helen Suzman Foundation and other respondents have until July 1 to file opposition papers with the SCA.

Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court by the Constitutional Court. This was in response to the former president’s failure to appear before the State Capture Commission after it summoned him.
Zuma is being held at the Escourt Correctional Services Facility. He was supposed to serve his 15-month sentence in prison, but he didn’t. Former Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser granted Zuma medical parole.
This was less than two months in prison for Zuma and went against the Medical Parole Advisory Board’s recommendation. Zuma’s case, according to Judge Elias Matojane, required the SCA’s attention.
According to Matojane, this will bring clarity to the interpretation of the Correctional Services Act. Zuma was sentenced to prison again by the Pretoria High Court last year. It rescinded his medical parole.
According to SABC News, the High Court also ruled that Fraser’s medical parole decision was illegal.
It was stated that Zuma’s time served on medical parole should not be counted toward the completion of his sentence imposed by the ConCourt.

Former President Jacob Zuma could be in the hot seat until 2023. His corruption, money laundering, and racketeering case was resumed on a holding date at the Pietermaritzburg High Court in KZN. The case is currently being reconsidered by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
It was revealed that the papers in Zuma’s case had yet to be received by the office of SCA Judge Mandisa Maya. Only Judge Maya is qualified to handle the unusual application.
Prosecutor Billy Downer informed Judge Piet Koen of the above, and he was not impressed. Downer told the court that he had checked with the SCA’s registrar twice and had received no response.
