Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma is expected to hand herself over to police on Tuesday morning following reports that she will be criminally charged for allegedly inciting public violence.
The former Vuma FM presenter and activist, who is also the founder and leader of the March and March Movement, is expected to present herself at a police station at 7.30am, where she will be formally charged and is anticipated to appear in court.
In a statement released on Monday, the March and March Movement said police had decided to charge Ngobese-Zuma over comments allegedly linked to violence against illegal immigrants.
The organisation confirmed that its leader would cooperate with authorities, describing her as a “law-abiding citizen” who intends to follow due process.
At the same time, the movement strongly criticised what it described as the state’s selective approach to law enforcement.
It accused authorities of moving swiftly against South African citizens while allegedly failing to act decisively against foreign nationals believed to be involved in criminal activities.
According to the statement, the charges against Ngobese-Zuma are viewed by the organisation as part of a broader effort to silence activists who speak out on issues affecting South Africans.
Despite the impending legal action, the movement said it would not be deterred and would continue its activism.
Ngobese-Zuma has become a prominent and controversial voice in national debates around immigration and socio-economic challenges in recent years, often drawing both support and criticism for her outspoken views.
