Kaizer Chiefs legend Jabu Mahlangu has insisted Mamelodi Sundowns hovering all the best players in the Premier Soccer League is “killing” Bafana Bafana.
The former Amakhosi midfielder took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with massive amount of quality players in the Masandawana squad.
Downs have done well to assemble a quality spot that has probably every position double-covered at a very high PSL level, while their traditional title rivals like Orlando Pirates and Chiefs, just like the rest of the league, struggling to keep up with the log leaders.
After Sundowns opened a 16-point gap at the top, second-placed Richards Bay are now closer to the relegation spot than to Sundowns, with Chiefs even sitting 22 points behind the run-away leaders and Mahlangu – former known as Pule – saying the situation is not good for the national team.
“PSL games are unwatchable, well at least for me personally. I’m struggling to watch PSL games and the standard has dropped a lot,” he said in a video shared on social media.
“We suggested the fair play issue in the PSL. Whether Sundowns fans or not everyone wants their team to win all the time, but what’s happening right now is killing our national team.
“We need to be honest without favouring anyone, something must be done.
“If you check the match between Chiefs and Sundowns. Check the selected Sundowns team for that game and then check players like Kapinga, Lebusa, Rivaldo… the list of the players in the stands is endless. That’s another team in the stands, top players that could be playing at other teams
“And they claim they want to help Bafana Bafana get to the top. It’s not going to be possible because all our best players are at one team and they are not playing.
“I’m happy that some fans are talking about it now everywhere even on social media. But something must be done, because we can’t be having all the top players, all the talented players in the PSL in place not playing.
“How are we going to improve? I mean I don’t want to compare but Manchester City didn’t buy all the top players in the Premier League. They are a good team but the league is still competitive. I’m not comparing I’m just making sense.
“Something must be done in our football. No guys. Even themselves Sundowns knows what they are doing is destroying in terms of South African football. Please guys let’s not get personal and don’t insult me because we are talking about football here.”
