Relebohile Mofokeng has reacted for the first time since joining Belgian giants Royale Union Saint-Gilloise this week.
The 21-year-old playmaker signed a four-year deal with Union SG after an impressive season with Orlando Pirates where hehelped them win a treble.
After much speculation, the Belgian club announced the arrival of Mofokeng on Thursday morning.
“Yes. President Yama 2000 has arrived. Relebohile Mofokeng joins Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a four year-deal. More information on rusg.brussels,” the club wrote.
Shortly after, Mofokeng also broke his silence, confirming that he was now a Union SG player having left Pirates before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I’m very happy to be here,” said Mofokeng after signing his contract.
“It’s a dream to play in Europe and to begin our Champions League qualifying campaign soon.
“The past year has been very special, with the league title, my first Fifa World Cup with South Africa and now this important step in my career.
“I hope to continue developing as a player here. Together with the team, we’ll do everything we can to compete for trophies.”
Mofokeng looking to win trophies at Union SG
Mofokeng is not the first South African player to join Union SG. Ex-Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau joined the Belgian giants on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018.
The talented attacker did not return to South Africa with his Bafana Bafana teammate following their exit from the World Cup. It was reported that the player travelled to Belgium to finalize his move to Union SG.
