Ishmael Wadi was over the moon on Tuesday afternoon after netting a first-half hat trick for JDR Stars as they walloped Magesi FC 6-0.

In a post-match interview with FARPost, Wadi was a model of modesty, attributing his first treble of the season to team-work.

“I don’t do want to lie. l can’t describe the feeling but it’s something sweet especially when we ended up winning 6-0 and 3 points. l give credit to the technical staff and my teammates who made it simple for me,” the 29-year-old said.

Wadi scored in the 10th, 21st and 23rd minutes of the Motsepe Foundation Championship match played at Giant Stadium.

Earlier, the Zimbabwean had won a penalty after he was fouled in the sixth minute but his compatriot Temptation Chiwunga had his effort saved by Magesi goalkeeper two minutes later.

Two minutes later, there was no stopping the former Caps United man who tore Magesi defence to threads with his quickfire hat-trick.

Kamohelo Sithole extended the lead by scoring the fourth goal in the 71st minute.

A few minutes later, Wadi was substituted for Ngwenya before Moremi bagged a double by scoring twice inside two minutes to put the game to bed.

Overall, Wadi scored nine goals in 29 appearances for JDR Stars last season.

He went on to impress in the colours of the Warriors at the 2021 delayed AFCON in Cameroon where he scored once in three games.

Tuesday’s win put JDR Stars on fifth place with four points from three games, three points behind leaders Polokwane City.

It was the first win of the season for JDR Stars on their third attempt after playing out to a goalless draw against Casric Stars on Saturday.

JDR Stars started the season with a 2-0 loss to NB La Masia.

In other games played on Tuesday, Polokwane City continued with their good run of form when they edged Venda FC 1-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium whereas Casric Stars and All Stars drew 0-0.
