The ANC chairperson in KZN is accused of purging staff members at the Department of Transport that were employed by former MEC Sipho Hlomuka.
Siboniso Duma, who is also the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, allegedly fired several employees in the department to make way for his comrades who are campaigning for him to return as the ANC provincial chairperson.
Sources who spoke to Scrolla.Africa revealed that some of the employees are frustrated and others are stressed as they fear they might be next.
“It’s seriously bad because it’s like Duma is fighting Hlomuka indirectly. Since he was appointed to the department as the MEC he has also incorporated some of the posts to the ministry because he wants to put his comrades there. He is fighting hard to get a second term as the provincial chairperson,” a source said.
Duma was elected in 2022 at the ANC provincial conference in Durban.
He was part of the Taliban faction that was disguised as a Jacob Zuma faction.
In that elective conference he was up against former premier Nomusa MaDube-Ncube of the Game Changer faction and Sihle Zikalala, who was under the Ankole umbrella.
An elective conference is rumoured to take place next year.
Duma’s spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said he won’t entertain these rumours.
“This is a manufactured lie not worthy of a response,” said Sibiya.
Duma’s leadership in the ANC is facing many challenges. The party lost power to govern the province for the first time since 2004, when the ANC wrested control from the IFP through a coalition with the UDM and the late Amichand Rajbansi’s Minority Front.
