Inkos’yamagcokama Funeral Details and Arrangements

The Maskandi music community is preparing to bid farewell to Scebi “Inkos’yamagcokama” Dlamini.

His family confirmed that the popular artist will be laid to rest on Saturday, while the genre continues to reel from a devastating weekend on South Africa’s roads.

Dlamini will be laid to rest at his homestead in KwaDunganamanzi, eMsinga, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

According to an official funeral announcement issued jointly by the Dlamini family, Ivulandlela Holdings and Sicelu Collective Management on Tuesday, the funeral service will begin at 8am at Fabeni Stadium in eMsinga eMachunwini.

The announcement comes days after Dlamini, widely known as Inkos’yamagcokama, died following a vehicle crash in Richards Bay.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport confirmed that the musician died at the scene of the crash on Sunday, 9 August.

In the funeral announcement, the Dlamini family expressed gratitude for the messages of condolence, prayers and support received following the musician’s death.

The family asked supporters, industry colleagues and members of the media to remain patient while the remaining arrangements are finalised.

Further logistical information will be communicated through the artist’s official platforms.

Dlamini was only 29 and had established himself as one of the recognisable young voices in contemporary Maskandi.

Music platforms describe him as an important emerging figure in the genre, with a catalogue that includes songs such as “Kungcono Ngife”, “Asenzele Bona”, “Ifoni” and “Dali Ngyakhala”.

His career had continued to expand in the months before his death.

In July, he performed his “Umgowo Experience” at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena, with the event promoted as a major live showcase built around his music. The show was sold out, according to the venue’s listing.

Reports published after his death also indicated that Dlamini was in the process of completing a new home and preparing to marry his fiancée, Mbali Mthembu.

The latest developments have placed the focus not only on Dlamini’s legacy, but also on the vulnerability of artists who spend much of their working lives travelling between performances.

For Maskandi performers, long-distance travel is an integral part of the live music economy, with artists regularly moving between festivals, concerts and community events.

The deaths and crashes over the weekend have consequently raised concerns within the music community about road safety and the pressures facing touring artists.

The Richards Bay crash involving Dlamini is being handled by the SAPS Accident Unit, according to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.

For now, the focus remains on giving Dlamini a final farewell.

On Saturday morning, thousands of fans, musicians and members of the community are expected to gather at Fabeni Stadium before Dlamini is taken to his homestead in KwaDunganamanzi for his final resting place.

The funeral will mark the end of a short but rapidly rising musical career and a moment for the Maskandi community to mourn a young artist whose career was still unfolding when it was abruptly cut short.
