Tshwane Emergency Services says these weather conditions increase the risk of flooding and are expected to last until 23h59 on Wednesday.
This follows a yellow level 2 warning in the capital city.
Emergency personnel remain on high alert in regions that have been identified as high risk and continue to monitor known flooding hotspots.
Potential impacts of the yellow level 2 warning include, but are not limited to:
- Heavy downpours that may cause localised flooding in low-lying areas, flat plains and flood-prone roads.
- Large amounts of small hail, particularly over open areas.
- Damaging winds and excessive lightning that may result in structural damage or fires.
- Traffic disruptions due to flooded major roads.
- Minor to major vehicle accidents caused by reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces.
- Damage to houses or structures, including roof damage in both formal and informal settlements.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors where possible and avoid contact with metal objects such as barbed-wire fences and power lines that may attract lightning.
You are also warned to avoid crossing flooded low-lying roads, bridges or swollen streams, as this may lead to drowning or even worse, death.
