‘I’m Not Surprised That Mammila Is Coaching’

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele says he is not at all surprised that the club’s former CEO Morgan Mammilla has turned to coaching.

Mammila’s first stint was with Chippa United mid-way through last season, then he joined Swallows as Technical Director and he is now back as head coach at the Eastern Cape based outfit.

Mammila has also taken to media duties like a duck to water with his interesting pre- and post-match comments.

Mphahlele feels that Mammila was kind of oppressed at Baroka, as they used to have to chase him away from the changing rooms at Bakgaga.

“Morgan Mammila, I love him, he is my boy. He is carrying our flag there in the Eastern Cape,” said the Baroka chairman.

“He is one of ours and I know he liked to coach because he used to go to the dressing room. It’s in his blood and I wish him all the best.

“That’s what he wanted to do all the time even when he was here. Actually, we were oppressing him because he went to the dressing room and we said no, so there he’s free to go to the dressing room now, he’s getting what he wants.

“I’m sure he’s also happy. You can see that he’s happy. He likes the media, he talks a lot.”

The Limpopo Motsepe Championship side is known for grooming interesting characters including former coaches Kgoloko Thobejane and Matsemela Thoka. Mphahlele jokingly said he doesn’t mind if that is the reputation of the club.
