The treasurer of the Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal, Qhina Mkhwanazi, has passed away after a long illness.
Mkhwanazi died on Tuesday morning after being urgently hospitalised.
In addition to his role as the IFP treasurer in the province, where he worked alongside Premier Thami Ntuli, Mkhwanazi was a senior councillor at Inkosi Mtubatuba Local Municipality.
He was also a respected member of the Mkhwanazi royal family in Mtubatuba, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
His family confirmed the news in a statement today.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and husband, uMtwana Musawenkosi Qhina Mkhwanazi (MQ), who served as IFP-KZN Provincial Treasurer and Councillor of Inkosi Mtubatuba Municipality.
“MQ dedicated his life to serving the people of KwaZulu-Natal, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. We request privacy during this difficult time but take comfort in the outpouring of support from those whose lives he touched,” the family said.
