Thapelo dumps SAPS
Thapelo Molomo, the winner of Idols SA Season 18, has officially left his position as a South African Police Service (SAPS) warrant officer to focus entirely on his music career.
After balancing both careers for some time, he found it increasingly difficult to manage the demands of being a musician while serving in law enforcement.
The singer, who holds a psychology degree from the University of Venda, was stationed at Brits in the Northwest before deciding to resign in October 2024.
Speaking about his departure, he expressed gratitude for the support he received from SAPS.
“The police service has been a family to me, very supportive. They are supportive of my music career. They indicated they will continue to support me,” he shared.
Now fully dedicated to his passion, Molomo has secured an exciting opportunity to perform on a cruise ship, where he also serves as a production manager.
While the experience has been rewarding, he admitted that being away from his loved ones is one of the biggest challenges.
Despite the difficulties, his daughter remains his biggest motivation.
“It’s not easy, but I encourage myself. I’m here to work for her and take her to schools I never went to and save up for her future. I believe that’s what fathers need to do, work hard for their children to better their future,” he said.
