AmaZulu mentor Brandon Truter has declared that he wants to win the league title, as he looks to end the club’s 30-year trophy drought.
Usuthu were one of the busiest sides in the DStv Premiership in the transfer market. After parting ways with 15 players, they bolstered their squad with the addition of six talented and experienced players; Gabadinho Mhango, Ethan Brooks, George Maluleka, Dumisani Zuma, Augustine Kwem and Ramahlwe Mphahlele.
With these acquisitions at the KZN outfit, Truter is confident of happy days coming to the club.
“The expectations from the board they would like a trophy and a top-four finish. But as individuals, the atmosphere in the squad is great. When you look around your personal objectives, we need to win [something],” Truter told the club media.
“As a coach, it’s our dream and objective to always win the league. I don’t want to set out [the objectives] at the start of the season with top eight, or top four is our objective. I want to win the league. That’s what a coach should aim for.”
Following a disappointing draw against TS Galaxy on Sunday, the Capetonian believes they can improve and challenge as the league is not lost in one game.
“I expect a better performance, and I expect better playing structure. No league has been lost after one game in the season; we can only get better.”
“We got a quality squad which is capable of achieving great things for the club. We are on the right mentality, and physically, the squad is looking in a good shape. The mood is high and positive as well,” he added.
Up next for Usuthu is a home game against Gavin Hunt-led Supersport United side, with both sides aiming for the first victory of the campaign following draws in their respective opening matches of the season.
