‘I regret not discovering GLP-1s sooner,’ says Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey has expressed regret for not discovering GLP-1s and starting her weight loss journey sooner, which would have allowed her to arrive at the place she is now – a place of contentment with her weight and overall well-being.

The former host of The Oprah Winfrey Show is on a press tour to promote her new book.

She partnered with Dr. Ania M. Jastreboff for the book, Enough: Your Health, Your Weight and What It’s Like to Be Free.

According to Business Insider, Winfrey believes discovering GLP-1 medications sooner would have saved her years of agony over her weight.

“There are tools to use that can help you. And I do see it as a tool,” Winfrey said.

“I have regret that I didn’t discover it in 2013. I have regret that, oh my gosh, this has been going on for over 12 years now, and I didn’t know about it,” said the 71-year-old.

“The wasted time, the wasted sadness, and shame about it. I think about the wasted years,” Winfrey said.

Winfrey gained some weight in 2025 while trying to prove that she could do it through sheer determination.

But reason prevailed 20 pounds later when she decided to stick to a method that has proven to work for her.

‘I was off of the medications all last year, and I gained 20 pounds because I wanted to test it,” said Winfrey.

“… And then I gained three pounds, and I gained five pounds, and I gained 10 pounds, and before you know it, the [food] noise was back.’
