Louisa Zondo, the mother of beloved music star Riky Rick, who tragically took his own life in 2022, is still struggling to come to terms with her son’s death. She has been open about her grief and her longing for her son’s presence.
Longing for Her Son
In a recent post, Louisa shared her feelings of longing for her son, MaRiky. She wrote, “Today is one of those days when I cannot shake off my deep longing for MaRiky. The beautiful conversations the Riky Rick Foundation for the Promotion of Artivism had today moved me to this state. Music carries me through everything, so I’m playing it non-stop. This particular song took me on a sentimental journey back to 1994. I miss you so much MaRiky.”
A Mother’s Journey through Grief
Louisa has written a book, “Dearest MaRiky: A Mother’s Journey through Grief, Trauma and Healing,” in which she shares her love for her son and the pain of losing him through the story of her life and experiences that shaped her. In the book, she writes about how the death of her son changed everything she knew about life and left her feeling lost and in unbearable pain.
Healing through Love and Support
Louisa credits the love and support of family, friends, Rikhado’s fans, people who had experienced loss, and her spiritual community for helping her through this difficult time. She also sought help through intensive work that was both painful and healing. Despite the pain she felt when engaging with memories of her son, she found herself drawn to them.
Finding Newness in Life
As Louisa learns to live with the reality of her son being gone, she has found newness in her life through writing her book. She previously told TshisaLIVE that engaging with the memory of her son was something she was drawn to, even though it caused her extreme longing and pain.
