SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has praised his side for qualifying for the CAF Confederations Cup ahead of “much bigger clubs”, despite missing out on second spot.

SuperSport lost 1-0 to Sekhukhune United on the final day of the campaign in Polokwane to finish the season in third place with 51 points, three points behind Pirates and ultimately not enough to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

But Matsatsantsa will compete in the Confederations Cup after finishing ahead of his former side Kaizer Chiefs and Hunt says it’s a big achievement.

“We are still in the Confed Cup, a club of our size to be there ahead of other clubs who are much bigger than we are, it’s a huge achievement, huge achievement,” Hunt stated after the game.

“So we will go in that space but obviously we are going to need to do a lot business in the off-season, if anything to try and get the right mix and balance. So we’ll see.

“We didn’t have it. It was going to be a big ask with two goals behind Pirates but same points.

“We should have tied up the second spot weeks ago. We have drawn games and we know that, so we should have tied it up second spot weeks ago.”
