SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has opened up about Bradley Cross and Wayde Jooste, who’s been training with the club and opened up on their impressive run of form in the DStv Premiership.

Cross, 21, is familiar to Hunt having been with Bidvest Wits academy before making the move to Schalke upon the sale of the club, he went on to play for Newcastle United’s reserves side for two years and even captained the team for large parts of last season.

However, after a serious knee injury, the Kempton-Park-born defender was released and he’s now been seen training with the Tshwane outfit alongside former Orlando Pirates wing-back Wayde Jooste, a player that Hunt is seemingly pushing for management to secure to bolster his first-team options.

“He came back from Newcastle, he was there and had a bad knee [injury] so he’s been way behind [on fitness], but he’s getting fitter every day, but there’s no decision,” Hunt confirmed when asked by iDiski Times on Wednesday morning at the club’s training ground. “Wayde we know, we know what it’s been about it’s, the club’s been… that’s it.”

Six wins from their last seven games in the league have put SuperSport in an impressive third place, five points off league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and this was achieved after a winless run from their opening four encounters.

This started with three points against the reigning champions and the form of Grant Margeman and Bradley Grobler along with Thulani Hlatswayo has been central to the renessaince under the four-time league winner.

“I came in two weeks before the start of the season so it was a little bit… I mean I knew the team but it was a little bit rushed, new coach, new this, new that, so I had to look at the players, but I still thought we played well the first four games even though we didn’t get many points,” he said about their recent upturn.

“But ya, you’re hoping it comes right and obviously we need to keep it going now and try and finish off [well], certainly before the World Cup break, which is Sunday’s game, which won’t be easy because Swallows had a win in their last game, but we’ll take at one game at a time.”

Matsatsansa will face Swallows on Sunday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium before the mid-season break over the next two months.
